Chasing Bubbles Day at the Kenosha Yacht Club: Sparking Adventure for Local Youth

On August 13^th, 2025, the Kenosha Yacht Club was buzzing with excitement as 23 local youth gathered for a day of discovery on Lake Michigan. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Chasing Bubbles Foundation, the Kenosha Yacht Club Foundation, and the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, participants enjoyed an experience designed to ignite curiosity and confidence and create lasting memories for everyone involved. The event was also recently featured in the Kenosha News, showcasing the impact this day had on the local community and youth. 

Hands-On Sailing and Teamwork

Guided by experienced sailors, each participant had the opportunity to learn the basics of sailing—including steering, sail trim, teamwork, and the rhythm of the open water. For many of the young sailors, this was their first time not only on a sailboat, but also out on the vast waters of Lake Michigan.​

Life Skills and Lasting Friendships

The event was about much more than just being out on the water. With guidance from experienced sailors, participants learned a variety of practical sailing skills, including how to use a boat hook and tie basic sailing knots—essential techniques for any aspiring sailor. A special highlight was the visit from the U.S. Coast Guard, who shared firsthand water safety lessons and gave kids a chance to tour their boat, explore their  equipment, and better understand the commitment to safety that keeps everyone safe on the lakes. These hands-on activities built confidence and teamwork, while supportive volunteers and staff ensured each participant  felt welcomed and empowered. 

Community and Connection

Beyond the water, the day was filled with good stories, waterfront lunches, and keepsakes to commemorate the adventure. A spirit of inclusion and community ran through every activity, bringing together youth, families, mentors, and sailing enthusiasts to celebrate what makes Lake Michigan—and Kenosha—so special.​

Looking Forward

Not every child in Kenosha gets a chance to experience Lake Michigan up close. Events like these open new doors, inspire big dreams, and help foster a deeper connection to the resources and beauty found right in our community's backyard. It’s about more than sailing—it’s about helping youth set their sights on new possibilities.​

With the success of this event, Chasing Bubbles and its partners—the Kenosha Yacht Club Foundation and Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha—are committed to broadening the program’s reach in 2026. The team is actively working on expanding the initiative so more youth across the Kenosha area can experience the adventure and growth that come from time spent on the water!
